A New Roof. A New Beginning.

The revival of the georgiana opry house

October 14th, 2025

in the small Alabama town of georgiana,

The steady hum of music and laughter once echoed through the historic Georgiana Opry House. Locals and travelers alike filled its rows to enjoy bluegrass bands, country favorites, and the occasional movie night that brought neighbors together under the same roof — a roof that, in time, became the very thing that threatened to silence it all.

When heavy rain began to seep through its ceiling, the Opry House — a beloved landmark for generations — faced a challenge too big for the community to ignore. The leaks grew worse, the damage spread, and eventually, the space was deemed unsafe for gatherings. The lights dimmed. The laughter quieted. The doors closed.

But where most would see a building too far gone, one woman saw a story worth saving.

A Vision for revival

About five years ago, Tracy Eason stepped in with a mission: to rescue and restore the Georgiana Opry House. She saw what it had meant to the town — not just as a venue, but as a gathering place, a cultural anchor, and a source of pride. With tireless determination, Tracy began the work of bringing the historic building back to life.

Turning the Opry House into a nonprofit organization was one of her biggest steps. It allowed her to focus on preserving the building’s history while opening the door to new opportunities for community grants and historic preservation funding. The transformation from a for-profit entertainment venue to a nonprofit cultural landmark was more than paperwork — it was a statement of purpose.

Tracy wasn’t just saving a building. She was preserving a piece of Georgiana’s soul.

when the rain came down

Despite all her progress, the Opry House’s roof remained its Achilles’ heel. Each storm left its mark — water stains, warped wood, and a growing sense of urgency. The leaks became too dangerous to ignore, and by last year, the venue had no choice but to pause operations completely.

“The building just wasn’t safe anymore,” Tracy recalls. “You can’t invite the public into a space that’s falling apart above their heads. But giving up was never an option.”

She continued seeking help, applying for grants, and rallying support from locals who shared her love for the Opry House. And then, when it seemed like the roof would never be repaired, a solution arrived — not in the form of a large corporation, but in the hands of a local contractor with heart.

the man who saw the same vision

Trey Wilkinson, owner of Crimson Roofing, heard about the Opry House’s struggles and saw more than a leaky roof. He saw a chance to make a difference.

Trey’s reputation for quality craftsmanship and his dedication to helping people in need are well-known across Alabama. When he learned what the Opry House meant to Georgiana, he didn’t hesitate. He met with Tracy, listened to her vision, and decided to take on the challenge — not by patching the existing roof, but by replacing it entirely.

“In all honesty, the best thing to do was to replace the whole thing,” Trey said, “because if you put a band-aid on it, it's only going to last a certain amount of time. So now there should not be any issues whatsoever with any type of leaking on this roof." He sees a brighter, more secure future for the venue now, "I see a lot of vision here. If we all work together, and take one step at a time...it can definitely be doable. Things like this take a team. As long as you have a good team beside you, anything is possible”.

a roof over music again

This new roof serves as a symbol of renewal. With it, the Opry House once again has the foundation it needs to carry out its purpose: to bring people together through music, storytelling, and community.

Inside, the work isn’t over yet. The next phases of renovation, led by general contractor Boyd's Property Solutions, include new dressing rooms, improved lighting, and other interior updates that will make the venue more comfortable and welcoming for performers and guests alike. But for the first time in years, the building is structurally sound — and that means the music can return.

the stage that started it all

The Georgiana Opry House holds a unique place in Alabama’s musical history. It was a stop on the early road of one of country music’s greatest icons — Hank Williams Sr.

At just 16 years old, Hank Williams performed on this very stage, marking one of his earliest public performances. That history has remained central to the Opry House’s identity, inspiring generations of musicians and fans who come to Georgiana to celebrate the roots of true country sound. It’s that same history that gave birth to one of the venue’s proudest traditions: the Annual Hank Williams Sr. Talent Showcase, a competition that highlights young singers and performers chasing their own musical dreams.

When the roof began to fail and the Opry House had to close its doors, the beloved Talent Showcase was put on hold — a painful but necessary pause while the building underwent restoration. But with the roof complete and the building once again ready to host audiences, there’s a new buzz of excitement about the future.

The goal now is clear: to bring the Talent Showcase back in 2026, alongside a full calendar of shows, lessons, and community events. The stage that helped shape a country legend will once again be filled with music, applause, and the laughter of neighbors coming together.

a community restored

Plans are underway to resume the Opry House’s music lessons, local concerts, and family movie nights, along with hosting touring bands who have long missed performing on its historic stage. Each new event brings the community one step closer to the Opry House’s full revival. For the people of Georgiana, it’s not just about live music or shows — it’s about belonging. It’s about seeing their town thrive again, about preserving a space where memories are made and legacies live on.

The Georgiana Opry House’s journey from near-collapse to restoration is proof that history doesn’t have to fade — it just needs people willing to fight for it. Tracy Eason’s persistence and the community’s support have together written a new chapter for this landmark.

And as the first drops of rain roll harmlessly off the brand-new roof, the message rings clear: the Georgiana Opry House is back.

Once again, it’s ready to make music.

A message from Tracy:

keep the momentum going

We’re so thankful for the grants that made our roof restoration possible, but those funds are limited. Every donation helps continue the Opry House’s revival — supporting new lighting, seating, and stage updates that will keep live music and community gatherings thriving in Georgiana for years to come. Thank you, all!
